I saw this tag circulating around BookTube recently, and though it would be a fun one to do! I feel like I get to spend a lot more time on my blog talking about books I love and not as much on books I am not interested in or didn’t love! So this tag will be a fun way to change things up!
I am using the written questions that Bree @ Words About Words used, so thank you to Bree!
1. A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?
For this prompt I will have to say Warcross by Marie Lu. I feel like everyone raves about this book and I have been told by multiple people to read it, but I just never will. I didn’t love the other Marie Lu book I read, and I’m not really into science fiction. I also think I heard this revolves around a video game of some sort? It just doesn’t sound like my cup of tea, despite all the hype.

2. A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?
For this answer, I have to say Moby Dick, because a 600 page book about a whale sounds like the worst thing in the world. And to make it even more tragic, I have to read this for class next month. I am already dreading it and trying to figure out the most painless way to do this. I am already dreading this story so much.

3. An author whose books you have no interest in reading?
Soo for this I have to say Veronica Roth. I was never really into The Divergent series as a kid and I’m not going to read them now because I just have no interest. And I know Veronica Roth just published a new book this year but I’m never going to pick it up.

3.2 A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?
Of course the obvious answer would be J.K. Rowling, but I wanted to go with Francina Simone. Francina has her own YouTube channel and has just published her book Smash It! which I read an e-ARC of. I thought the book was boring, but after reading some other reviews I realized that this book is quite problematic. A character jokes about Palestinian genocide and there is also racism towards Pacific Islanders. Since I didn’t like this book to begin with, I won’t be picking up anything else by this author.

4. An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?
I’m very sad about this, but I’m going to have to say Cassandra Clare. I’ve read 7 of her books, and although I did enjoy The Infernal Devices (and would reread it), I only got through the first three books of The Mortal Instruments, and I didn’t like Chain of Gold (one of my most disappointing books of the year!). I don’t have the heart to unhaul TMI from my shelves because maybe *someday* I’ll finish them, but if I’m being honest I know I won’t and if I do it will be through an audiobook.

5. A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?
Like I said earlier, I just don’t have any interest in science fiction. I have tried my hand at reading some, and more often than not I just don’t enjoy it (The Lunar Chronicles being an exception).
6. A book you have bought but will never read? (this can be a book you have unhauled/returned to the library unread)
*sigh*… I fell for a buy one get one half off deal on eBay and used it to purchase Anna Karenina. I do have a genuine interest in this story, but if I think I would be better off watching the movie because I read some Tolstoy in class and it didn’t mesh with me. If I do pick it up, it will probably be an abridged version.

7. A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have DNF’d?
Unfortunately, I am going to have to say The Grisha trilogy, which is tragic because it is loved by so many people in the book community. I was supposed to read this for a book club but only got about 60% in when I decided I just couldn’t do it. I really enjoyed the world and want to give Six of Crows a try, but I don’t think I will ever read this series.

8. A new release you have no interest in reading?
Listen, I will never, as long as I live, ever, read Midnight Sun. I’ll leave it at that.

This tag was a lot of fun, and if you are interested I tag you!
Happy reading!
Same, I’m not a sci-fi fan but Lunar Chronicles is just too good!

Oof, I guess the tagline for Simone’s book (“mistakes were made”) seems to be pretty accurate? I’ve never heard of the author or the book but I’ll be sure to stay away from it now 🙂 Great post!

hahaha I didn’t even see the tagline! But yes, I personally would not recommend.
